Good weather=Great golf

28 Sep

Because of the much-appreciated temperature drop today, I thought I could talk about good golf courses in the area. Since I’m not a golfer myself, we’ll have to trust Cade’s judgment on courses in the area. Here are some of his opinions:

Most Affordable
The Bryan Municipal Golf Course: The course has made some upgrades (new carts, new tournaments, etc.), but the course lacks the finer things that make a quality golf course. If you’re looking for a quick nine or eighteen, check it out.

The Texas A&M Golf Course (not to be confused with Traditions): They too have made improvements in the past year, like new cart paths and landscaping. The course is very popular on Saturday mornings before a home Aggie football game.

Most Pristine
Miramont: There are not many non-members that get to play this course, and those that do are considered lucky. Driving into the course is like driving into a 5-star resort pictured in Scotland. It’s a great course that many dream of playing on.

Most Difficult
Traditions Club: There is a reason that the Aggie golf team is consistently good; it’s because they practice at this difficult course. Make sure to take plenty of golf balls if you plan to play here, because of the thick rough and water traps on almost every hole.

Best Overall
Briarcrest Country Club: This course is pretty good all-around. It’s not the nicest, but not the worst; it’s not the cheapest, but definitely not the most expensive. It recently turned public, but it still boasts many member-only country club qualities.
