Christmas shopping

27 Nov

It’s time to start (or finish) this year’s Christmas shopping. If you’re looking for something for a girl, whether it be a friend, sister, mom, etc., a boutique is the place to go. Boutique shopping is a lot of fun, because you never know what you’ll find. Boutiques carry unique brands and clothes, but can come with a heftier price tag.

Willa Boutique in College Station is a great place to do some shopping. They have reasonable prices on many items, accessories, and a friendly staff. They usually have a good sale rack too. If you do go shopping at Willa or another boutique, if you see something you like, you should probably get it. Boutiques don’t carry mass quantities of the same item and when it’s gone, it’s gone. Have fun Christmas shopping!

Post Oak Mall

22 Nov

When my checking account allows me, I like to spend extra time shopping. It’s probably not one of the best (especially not the cheapest) forms of entertainment, but I love to look for deals. College Station’s Post Oak Mall is usually one of the first places I go when looking to spend some money.

I know there are a wide range of opinions about our small mall, but since I’m doing the writing I get to give my opinion. I grew-up in a town with a so-called mall that offered Bealls, JCPenny, and a nail salon. That’s about it. To do really good shopping at a big mall, we had to go to Dallas (3 hours away). So, I’m very grateful to have a mall 5 minutes from my house. It may be small, but at least it covers the basics.

Here is my list of favorite stores at our local mall that covers a variety of my shopping needs.

1. Dillard’s: I love Dillard’s because I can always find something that I like. Since some of their clothes are too expensive for me to buy, I look for deals. There’s always a 40% – and a 70%- off  rack. This is where I go first. Dillard’s is usually good about putting there clothes on sale, especially at the end of the season. I also love their “take an extra 50% off sale” that goes on every couple of months. If I’m at the mall, I always go to Dillard’s.

2.NY&Company: This store sends me lots of good coupons via e-mail. I like getting business clothes here, because although they may not be the best quality, you can always get a good deal on them. I don’t wear business clothes that often, so I don’t feel the need to spend a lot of money on them. When I get a real job, maybe that will change. For now though, I like getting good deals at NY&Company.

3. The Candle Box/Coach House: Both stores are great for getting quick gifts and cards. I don’t always visit these stores, but if I’m shopping for someone hard to buy for, I usually end up in one or both stores.

4. Forever 21: Ok, I’m a sucker for this store. Their clothes may be of the poorest quality and may even fall apart while on your back, but you get what you pay for. I don’t go to this store to buy a lot of clothes that I plan on wearing for a long time. I go there if I’m looking for a shirt to wear to Northgate or something like that. I don’t plan on getting more than a couple wears out of anything I buy from there. Nonetheless, you can find some cute things for a very reasonable price.

5. Great American Cookie: I don’t think this one requires much explaining. I like cookies, especially the mini-doozies. It’s always on my list of stops.
