Christmas with David Phelps

5 Dec

Tonight I had the joy of attending a Christmas concert at Central Baptist Church starring David Phelps of The Gaithers. David Phelps is an amazing singer and a great entertainer. The Christmas concert was filled with renditions of classics and new songs written by David.

Like I’ve said before, I love Christmas, so it should be no surprise that I loved this concert. The light show added to the performance, not that David needed any help.

The concert also had a brief stand-up comedian act during the first half. It was entertaining, and gave everyone something different to listen to.

Here’s one of the songs he sang tonight.

If you get the opportunity to ever attend a David Phelps concert, please take advantage of it. It was a true delight and reminded everyone of the true meaning of Christmas.

Abbott and Donahew

1 Dec

Tonight, Casey Donahew and Josh Abbott will both be performing at Hurricane Harry’s. This should be a great concert to attend. Both of these performers make my list of favorites, so I will more than likely be attending (if I get all my homework done). I’m not positive, but I assume this will be an acoustic concert. Either way it will be a lot of fun to go to. Tickets are $10 in advance and can purchased at Cavendar’s, Traditions Bookstore, and online at Look forward to seeing everyone at Harry’s tonight!

Kyle Park

26 Nov

A couple of weeks ago, I went to see Kyle Park at The Hall of Fame for the third time. Kyle Park is a Texas Country artist that has a very unique voice that compliments his variety of songs. Kyle Park knows how to entertain. His constant smile while on stage translates into a great performance. He plays a mixture of slow songs, upbeat songs, and even some famous classics.

Kyle Park doesn’t come to College Station as often as some of the other Texas Country singers, but when he does, it’s usually a packed house. He usually comes to The Hall for First Beer of the Year and Last Beer of the Year and maybe one other time in between. If you like Texas Country music, I suggest that you go see him next time he’s in town.

Some of my favorite songs by Kyle Park are:

1. Somebody’s Trying to Steal My Heart (not entire song)

2. Alone in the Light

3. Don’t Look

Chilifest Facebook page

I know that it may seem like a long time from now, but it’s never to early to start preparing for Chilifest.

Chilifest is a weekend-long country music event that raises money for charities around the area. The headliners, like Dwight Yoakam, Robert Earl Keen, and Pat Green play throughout the day on Saturday. Friday night also has a line-up of country artists to be enjoyed by those on a Chilifest team.

Chilifest 2011 will be on April 8-9. The line-up and the 2011 rules and regulations for teams have not been posted yet. To get the latest updates visit the Chilifest Facebook page or the Chilifest website.

This past Saturday, Cade and I went to the George Strait and Reba McEntire concert in Shreveport, Louisiana. I know that this was no where near Bryan-College Station… believe me, we drove it. But, it was a really great concert nonetheless. I wanted others to know that if they get a chance to see the two of them on tour (especially Reba!), they should go. The tickets are a little pricey, but seeing two of the biggest names in country music is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Lee Ann Womack was there as a special guest, and she was a lot of fun to watch. Reba was amazing! She even came back out to sing “Fancy” in a little red dress, classic. George was good, a little boring, but still very good. He’s not much of the entertainer, but then again, he is George Strait. Everyone knows it’s just him and his guitar, and he still sells-out at almost every concert. George Strait and Reba McEntire on tour together is every country music fan’s dream.

Rocking with The Rock-A-Fellas

The Rock-A-Fellas

A picture of the Rock-A-Fellas, found on their Facebook fan page.

The Rock-A-Fellas is a cover band out of Bryan. They are known more for playing at weddings (don’t think Adam Sandler in The Wedding Singer). This past year though, they’ve started playing at more venues so that friends and family can enjoy their music too.

They’ve played at places like First Friday in downtown Bryan, The Icehouse, and The Hall of Fame, often to packed houses. This isn’t your everyday, mediocre cover band that plays hits that your parents’ remember listening to. They are good! With flashing lights and a disco ball, you feel like you’re at an expensive concert, rather than at a bar, and all you’ve payed is the cover charge at most.

If you go to a concert, plan on hearing hits from the 70’s and 80’s, and anything in between. Most of their music can be best described as “disco funk.” It’s light-hearted and something that all ages can enjoy. To find out where they’re playing next, visit their Facebook page at The Rock-A-Fellas fan page.
